Grading Information
Gradings
We run gradings 4 times a year;
Earl Shilton - March, June, September & December.
Coalville – January, April, July & October.
No-one is obliged to grade, but you are encouraged if you are ready, though a minimum of 8 lessons is required between each grading.
The first grading is £10 more as there is the “Budo Pass” to purchase, which is a record of the students’ achievements, and remains with them throughout their journey with us.
For this fee they get;
-
Time with an examiner to run through all of the techniques they have been practising
-
A report detailing their mark for each technique
-
If successful; a certificate and a new belt.
From a grading there are 4 possible outcomes;
- Fail <40%
- Pass 40%-59%
- Credit 60%-79%
- Honours >80%
We try very hard NOT to fail Little Dragons, we just try again next week, as its invariably
because they are having a bad day!
With the Dragon Warriors, especially on their first 2 belts, we try very hard to help them pass – as they progress, the onus is more and more on the student to put the effort in.
What if they fail?
We offer one, completely FREE re-grade within two weeks, and before this re-grade, the coaches work with the student to help them succeed, and the student can train unlimited for no extra fee until they re-grade. If they fail again, then unfortunately they will have to try again next time, and the grading fee is due again.
Belt or kata? (Dragon Warriors & Adults Ju Jitsu)
The journey to Black Belt contains 12 belts and 4 kata gradings, kata are a set series of movements in a form or pattern, each kata grading contains 2 kata;
Grading dates
The grading dates for the year ahead are set in November and published on this webpage
www.ljjmartialarts.co.uk/holidays
as we aim to give you as much advanced notice as possible.
Little Dragons are graded during their usual lesson, everyone else is graded on the specific pre-advertised Grading Day. If you are unable to make the grading day, then you have three options;
